John Held, Jr. was born April 2, 1947 in New York, USA. He now lives and works in San Francisco. Held graduated at Syracuse University, New York as Master of Library Science, and worked as Librarian in New York, Maryland and Texas. He has been doing Mail Art since 1976 and published “Mail Art: An Annotated Bibliography” in 1991. Held travels a lot, e.g. to Moscow 2003 and Berlin 2004, where he presented a lecture on “Moticos To Mail Art”. In 2012 he went to Japan, where he made an interview with Ryosuke Cohen
